Think about where you can help

There are numerous ways and places to volunteer. The way you can help depends on how much time you have, how old you are, and what kinds of opportunities you have.

At Home - Sometimes the biggest help can be to volunteer, rather than having to be asked. Asking if you can set the table, take out the trash, put groceries in the house, or even just asking your mom or dad if there is anything they need are some great ways to volunteer if you are a young child. If you are older, you can offer to cut the grass, clean the car, etc. Household chores may already be part of your routine, but volunteering to help with more is always appreciated. If you have a younger brother or sister, playing with them or spending time reading to them is a wonderful way to help your parents out too.

At School- If your school is involved in a public service project, such as a food bank or a book drive, you can take part in these. You might ask your teacher if he or she needs help with something in the classroom. Ask the librarian if he or she needs volunteers for help there. If your school has an art teacher, see if he or she needs help cleaning up. The end of the school year is always a good time to volunteer.

In Your Community- Don't overlook those volunteer opportunities that may be staring you right in the face. Do you have a neighbor or family friend who is struggling? Perhaps something as simple as running errands, raking leaves, bringing in their mail, or reading to them would change the entire scope of their world.
